Aratilis

aratilisMuntingia calabura, or aratilis (aratiles, aratalis), as it is known in the Philippines, is a fruit-bearing plant. It was probably my favorite as a child, when I still used to pick and eat its cherry-like fruit. Nowadays, I hardly see these trees anymore.

The berries are usually not sold but just picked and eaten by children. When I was in Mindanao, there was one tree at my hosts' lot, but it was all out of berries. Interestingly, they had a different name for it there--manzanitas.

If any of my readers are aware of a large batch of aratilis trees with fruit still on them, I would probably be interested in taking a trip there if it's not too far away. I haven't tasted aratilis in more than 17 years...

Actually there's 1 big aratilis in neighborhood vacant lot. It's really beautiful shade tree in the halamanan (which is vacant lot "na tambakan ng basura and construction materials" before, but now we tried to convert this to vegetable garden and this tree serves us resting area because of its shade in addition to its sweet taste fruit. This motivate me to search for aratilis. Anybody wish to share how can we make seedlings out of this 1 big tree. Planning to bring this tree to our bukid. Cheers with the Cherries!!!

In my childhood time up until now we always have Aratiles in our house, which we never planted, it just grow inside our compound. They said this Aratiles are brought by the birds and the seeds develop into their system and they discharge the seeds to grow in our backyard. What I noticed, in our place there is always a lot of birds in our area they like the place because we have many trees around that makes them cool. I love Aratiles, I cannot live without this trees around, there is something in this trees and fruits that I really love. I feel this trees are heavenly for me. I can feel the peace and happiness within while I am under the Aratiles trees. I have duyan which makes my siesta time perfect.

hi, i'm cedy from Batangas City, I have a neighbor who happened to have an aratilis tree, when it was still small, i used to look it out hoping to see some fruit and what a nice afternoon when my ate rita came in with a bowl of aratilis... hehehe, wow we almost ate up all. God is great! In a fruit as small as this, it  really proves that the taste is something that you cant compare to some, a unique taste! wonderful... hahahah...
Want some??
