Breakfast

For the most part, I still do largely agree with what I wrote here.  However, it was a bit simplified, which I'm sure I meant to do at the time.  But health is really a complex matter, and involves so many factors, and I have been studying it for so long.

Diet alone, is quite complicated.  I've been experimenting and researching for so many years, and I still have not come to a definitive conclusion as to what the ideal human diet is.

And then of course you have to factor in personal nutrient deficiencies which varies from individual to individual, as well as genetic predispositions and any illnesses one may have.  The amount of toxins and heavy metals in the environment and in the food and water we consume is also big deal.  And age is also major factor, which I likely did not realize back then, because I was not yet without the abundance of youthful energy and hormones.

I've been "tipid" or frugal lately; I have been on a tight budget and have only bought rice. Ironically, although sometimes it's not very fun since I am unable to travel to other places (hence I am still thinking of ways to earn money), I find times like these when I have to cut down spending to almost nothing quite rejuvenating. Let me explain.

Instead of riding a tricycle, I run to the palengke (market) or any other place I may need to go. And the food I end up eating is decent in a nutritional sense and does not include any artificial junk. For example, the food I ate this morning, which I have photographed, is a common meal I will have during these times. The egg I got from the free ranging chickens you see in the photo devouring more rice than I do during any meal. For vegetables, I picked some talbos ng kamote (the green sweet potato leaves), and for a little flavor I dip the talbos ng kamote in some bagoong (anchovy sauce) mixed with kalamansi (musk lime).

So, in other words, what I'm trying to say is that during these frugal times, I am forced to exercise and live off the land. It makes the body lean, but it's not bad and probably ends up getting rid of toxins from the body. Anyways, when I do get money and am able to spend a little more, my body recovers and gains more meat once again. It's all just cyclical, just as virtually everything else in life is cyclical. You just have to remember to keep calm and don't panic as Mother Nature has the things to take care of you if you make the effort to look around, move, and think.

I DONT KNOW HOW YOU MANAGE TO SURVIVE. ARE YOU STILL OK? IT SEEMS YOUR HEALTH IS ALREADY SUFFERING, JUST LOOKING AT YOUR DAILY DIET.

HOW LONG DO YOU INTEND TO KEEP THIS UP?

Hey, I have been reading your blog since two weeks ago. You are amusing man! As you said, most filipinos are willing to die to leave the country.. and yet you are there.. experiencing the ironic life in pinas firsthand.. anyway, thanks for refreshing my memory to my motherland too...

salamat ng marami!

hey just an idea. since you are running out of resources, why don't you contact some media people to document your journey/adventure in the philippines in exchange of some money to help you get by. Getting in touch with them can be daunting but i'm pretty sure they will be interested in you. It's not everyday that they will encounter people like you. With you, they can have informative, educational and entertainment documentary.

Hey David! I've been reading your blog since three months ago. I enjoy reading your blog 'coz i see myself on you during my earlier days (the things that you do now--the kalabaw, the camote tops, bagoong, etc.) Do you have an Ilocano background? Coz I am.

Keep posting your activities. Kaya mo yan!!

Hi! David,

I'm happy for you that you went back to your roots.

Anyhow, just want to say, here in the states pinoys like me do crave for talbos ng camote and bagoong---it's easy to get hold of them in Hawaii, California, and some warmer climes in the states.

God Bless! Hope you'll find what you're searching for.
