Jungle

Friday, March 16, 2018

We are all in a jungle, a deceptive and ruthless environment where most are out to get you and only a rare few actually care.  There's a constant struggle for power and survival, with predators and parasites abound, preying on your vulnerabilities.

Sometimes you find what you believe to be havens, but you are actually never truly safe.  In fact, these moments of calm are when you get damaged the most.  When you do not anticipate the blow is when you suffer the greatest.

Kindness, forgiveness, compassion, and other noble acts are admirable, but these tendencies also make you susceptible.  Deeds you provide, as you seek reflections of happiness or warmth of heart.  But to some, you become an instrument rather than beloved.  Turn your back and you are stabbed.  Or believe you can give to salvage yourself, but the appetites often prove never-ending, constantly taking and eating away until one is no more.

Before you know it, you are already wasting away; as all the while you are battling such beings, there too are demons that we cannot see, which quietly and gradually wreak havoc.  You may not have noticed, but Fear had slithered into your veins, an infection weakening you from the inside.  Until desperation sets in, with Evil pounding at your door, enticing you to let them in, so they can show you a way out.  And Time, silently watching, creeping slowly from all around, like an inescapable darkness waiting to swallow you at every flicker of your candle.
