Vulcanize

Wednesday, March 28, 2018

This is how quite a few posts came about.  Because I was usually low on money, basically, I would just walk in the nearby areas, and observe the life and goings-on around me.

Also, a good portion of the people in this area during this time were still fairly friendly and approachable, unlike my most recent experience in that area.

I'm low on money, so I haven't posted in a while.

Filipinos really enjoy the game of basketball. There was a basketball game going on when I went out tonight. There are lots of people and you can usually see vendors and tricycles parked outside the court during these matches.

I took some pictures at a waiting shed. Basically, this is where people wait (for a jeepney, tricycle, someone, or just stand by) and stay out of the sun. I'm sitting on a ledge that is next to a gasoline station in the photo with a "flammable" tank in the background. The guard there looked bored and restless so I invited him to take a picture with me.

I'm at a sari-sari store in one of the other photos. You can see plenty of these by the roadside wherever you are in the Philippines. It's like a small and third-world version of the stores at gas and rest stops in the US.  Regarding the next three photos, my companion that night and I were experimenting with the distance that my camera's flash covers so we used a tree as a subject.  I then stopped by a local vulcanizing shop and was mostly observing.

Thanks for the update.

Wondering why haven't you updated your blog lately.

Life is hard, specially the way you chose to explore our country.

Wish you all the best.

Hello David,

I think that I've visited your site before but for only the recipes... but now that I have the time to explore more, wow, you are a pretty impressive guy judging on your resume. But what is more impressive is your desire to experience the homeland in a way that's different from being a balikbayan and that is something to be admired and appreciated because in the end you will end up the more richer in life for having done so. Good luck and enjoy every minute of your stay in the Philippines.

It makes me feel as if I am a stranger in my own country. when i was younger, i told my folks that instead of going to the states, why dont we just travel around the Philippines. Years later, I still havent done that. Im still an overprotected daughter but I try to get away from Manila whenever I could.

Actually, you're living something I've been wanting to do. At the back of my mind, I know this is not it. There is something waiting for me elsewhere. I dream of going to a place where no one knows me so I can start anew. Hone my skills of living and develop a sense of independence (something I dont really have).

For now, I'd have to say, kudos to you. I hope you find what you are looking for. take care.
